Moshing : Why it is good for you

The 120 minutes workout

Surprisingly, moshing can benefit you in more ways than pure enjoyment, or expression. It is also a great way to sculpt the body.
Physical exercise is one activity many ‘scene’ kids fail to strive at. The act of going to a gymnasium, local swimming pool, or participating in a team sport is foreign to them. Luckily though, if they attend enough live shows, they can make up for wasted energy. Amanda Husted, author of Health Watch Fitness: a vigorous exercise for mind, body Dancing can burn calories, relieve stress, studies report, notes the benefits of dancing as a valid and effective form of physical exercise. She says “Even moderate ballroomdancing can burn 300 calories an hour, the same amount as doubles tennis. Like other aerobic exercise, dancing relieves tension, improves circulation and tones muscles, developing strength, endurance and flexibility” (1997). Therefore, if ballroom dancing is burning a large number of calories, moshing (which requires faster body movements and propelling of the body off the ground) uses enough or more energy to achieve an intense workout. Crowd surfing and moshing require a large amount of energy and stamina, to effectively participate throughout the entire 90-120 minute set.
Ultimately, the exercise increases the heart rate to a cardio, fat burning level, building up lactic acid in the legs and arms. Breathing becomes more difficult, as the space in which the exercise is performed is filled with hundreds of other sweaty bodies, depleting the amount of oxygen in the air; expanding the lung capacity. Below is a diagram of each of these body parts working throughout the exercise, to achieve a high-intensity workout:
